About Me
My name is Julie Hawthorne and I’ve been a personal dance instructor for the last twelve years. In that time, I’ve coached teams, couples, and individuals everything from the Merengue (Completely underrated by Dirty Dancing) to modern hip hop. I’m here to help aspiring dancers conquer the basics and to challenge intermediate dancers on their technique.
Everyone finds their passion for dance in their own unique way. For me, it began with ballet at a very early age. During high school I was on the cheer and dance teams before eventually going on to dance for the Milwaukee Bucks. In that time, I’ve trained all over the world. I studied swing and tap dancing in England, Waltz in Germany, and fell in love with Salsa during my time in Spain. During my two years studying in Spain, I absolutely got consumed with the culture. The food, language, and nightlife all spill over into salsa. A masterful dance technique that blends sensuality with a massive amount of fun. It is impossible not to have the time of your life while salsa dancing.
I transitioned from performance to teaching shortly after my second child was born. As a mother of two and wife to a husband who owns a roofing business, I had more vital priorities than performing. That doesn’t mean that I’m not on a dance floor every chance I get of course. In the last twelve years my focus has simply shifted to bringing out the best dancer in every one I meet.
